Consensus and impartial code of conduct to favor preparation of 2015 elections in peaceful climate and trust, SRSG says

BNUB brings together actors to prepare 2015 elections in Burundi

19 February 2013 – The United Nations Office in Burundi (BNUB) has invited all Burundi political actors for a workshop set for March 11-13 to draw lessons from the 2010 electoral process and to discuss “elements for a credible road map towards the organization of inclusive, transparent, free and fair elections in 2015” the Special Representative of the Secretary General today told the press.

Perpetrators of recent killings must be brought to justice, UN tells Burundi

23 September 2011 – Burundi, one of the first States targeted by the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission that seeks to prevent post-conflict countries from relapsing back into violence, today said a massacre perpetrated there earlier this week transmits a false image of the nation’s true situation.

Armed men killed at least 36 people in a popular bar last Sunday in Gatumba, just west of the capital, Bujumbura. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Belgium donates 9.8 mln USD to back Burundi's education sector

Belgium has donated 7 million euros (9.8 million U. S. dollars) to Burundi in support for the East African country's education, the government said on Thursday.

A cooperation agreement was signed on Wednesday by the two sides to back the African country's five-year project of the "Initial Training for Teachers".
