MIAMI, Aug 30 (AFP) - Florida and
several Caribbean islands on Monday were keeping a close eye on Hurricane
Frances, a powerful storm packing winds of nearly 200 kilometers (125 miles)
per hour.
A hurricane watch was in effect for the
British and northern US Virgin Islands, and for the Puerto Rican islands
of Culebra and Vieques, the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) said.
A hurricane watch means sustained winds
of at least 119 kilometers (74 miles) per hour are possible in the area
within 36 hours.
