General Overview

Damage evaluations and needs assessments (EDAN) continue mainly in the Pacific and Gulf of Mexico coasts. Although official data collection is limited and scattered, preliminary information estimate the following:

  • 1,2 million affected people.

  • 23,000 people are sheltered, according to federal government.

  • 57 deaths according to official data.

  • Yesterday (17 Sep) the Secretariat of Governance issued 77 Declarations of Emergency in 4 states (56 in Guerrero, 11 in Oaxaca, 8 in Veracruz and 2 in Chihuahua).
    The federal government estimates that 254 municipalities are affected.

  • The Acapulco city has no land access, humanitarian assistance is flowing through an aerial bridge activated by the Mexican army.

  • The Secretary of Governance stated that Mexico so far, there enough capacity to address the emergency. However, a more clear understanding of the situation will be possible only in the next days.

  • The remnant of “Manuel” are now reorganizing and have 70% probability of turning again into a tropical storm, with possible impact on Southern Baja California.

  • Additionally, in the Yucatan peninsula, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), there is a high possibility of a new tropical depression forming within the next 48 hours.

  • The NHC and Mexico’s Meteorological Forecast System recommends to be attentive to the evolution of these two systems.
