Global Humanitarian Action at Mid-year: Sahel, South Sudan and Yemen in focus (as of 16 July 2012)
SAHEL A severe humanitarian emergency is affecting the Sahel region (Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, Chad, Nigeria, Cameroon and the Gambia). Alarming food insecurity and malnutrition conditions have emerged in the wake of drought and poor harvests.
SOUTH SUDAN South Sudan continues to face considerable humanitarian challenges. Poor harvests, soaring food and fuel prices, conflict and displacement led to rising hunger and malnutrition across the country.
YEMEN Despite positive political developments, the humanitarian situation has worsened. Severe food insecurity has doubled and malnutrition is above emergency thresholds in several parts of Yemen.
