Situation

• The total number of new cases and deaths attributable to the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) is still increasing in the five affected West African countries of Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Nigeria and Senegal. As of 19 September (WHO), there were 5 784 people infected and 2 728 dead (probable and suspected cases included).

• In Liberia, the continued increase in the number of cases is moslty due to the continued increase reported in the capital Monrovia (Montserrado).
The majority of the recents deaths were in Montserrado.

• Regarding the unrelated EVD outbreak, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, no new cases and deaths were reported (as of 19 September). 71 cases and 40 deaths have been reported.
