INDIA & PAKISTAN - Kashmir conflict
At least 140 ceasefire violations reported this year, highest in last 8 years. Firing by Pakistani troops on Indian civilian areas has led to the evacuation of large numbers of villagers from border hamlets (ECHO)

JAPAN – Tropical Cyclone
FRANCISCO weakened to a Tropical Storm early on 24 Oct while passing 200km east of Okinawa. Heavy rain is expected in southern Japan on 25 Oct and some evacuations took place in Oshima island, heavily hit by Typhoon WIPHA on 16 Oct. (GDACS, JMA)

PACIFIC – Tropical Cyclone
Typhoon LEKIMA continues moving over open waters in the Pacific, slightly weakened, with sust. winds of 241 km/h. (GDACS)

MEXICO – Tropical Cyclone
RAYMOND weakened to a Tropical Storm and is moving away from Mexico. Heavy rains are still expected in Guerrero on 24/25 Oct. (GDACS, Mexican Meteo)

ECUADOR – Volcano
Tungurahua volcano has renewed its activity since 06 Oct, with strong explosions between 17-19 Oct, 3km-high ash columns and ash fall in 4 nearby towns. The activity has slightly decreased in the past two days. (ECHO)

ARGENTINA – Food Security
The Ministry of Agriculture declared a state of emergency for six central and northern provinces (Chaco,
Santa Fe, Rio Negro, Buenos Aires, Salta and La Rioja, brown-shaded in the map) affected by drought, high temperatures and frost (ECHO).

INDIA – Trop. Cyclone Relief
ECHO allocated € 3 million in assistance to the victims of Tropical Cyclone PHAILIN (that hit Odisha on 12 Oct), addressing needs for food assistance, livelihood recovery, shelter and basic health (ECHO)
