Haiti: Cholera Cases and Response (Published on 28 June 2012)

Cholera outbreaks reached the Nord, Sud and Sud-Est departments in June.
PAHO adds that most of the alerts have been recorded since 1 April due to the early onset of the rainy season. There is a high probability of a major emergency in the coming months if additional resources are not deployed.
The decline in humanitarian funding in Haiti since the second half of 2011 has reduced the capacity of health partners to face a resurgence of cholera.
At the peak of the epidemic in June 2011, 2,500 beds were available in the country. Today, most of the existing 814 beds are already occupied.
