Western Africa: Sorghum Difference Yield (as of 11 Jul 2009)
14 July 2009 - In Gambia,
Togo, Nigeria, Mali, Ghana, Benin
and Central African Republic normal
yields to slightly above (+5%) five year average yields are anticipated.
However local differences within these countries are seen.
In Sierra Leone, Guinea, Liberia and Sudan slightly reduced sorghum yields up to -6% are expected due to drought during the growing season. Maize yield prospects are good for Guinea-Bissau with an estimated surplus of about +9% relative to the 5 yr mean in the main growing areas.
In Niger and Senegal it is still too early to make a forecast for the sorghum growing season.
