Allocated 24,000 homes to people in need

Caracas, 14 May. AVN.- The Bolivarian Government has allocated 24,000 houses to families who lived in makeshift shelters after becoming homeless due to relentless rainfalls registered in Venezuela between the years 2010 and 2011, informed Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro.

President Nicolas Maduro held a meeting with spokespeople of residents of makeshift shelters in Caracas and he informed that there were still 7,000 families who lost their houses two years ago.

Govt. working to take all sheltered families to decent homes

Caracas, 28 Feb. AVN.- Venezuelan vice-president Nicolas Maduro attended Thursday to the allocation of 160 apartments to the same number of families who lived in makeshift shelters in Caracas, after relentless rainfalls ruined their homes.

The new housing complex built for such sheltered families counts with 20-story buildings, distributed in eight apartments per floor. The National Government invested 117,760,000 bolivares through the Grand Housing Mission Venezuela.

The summer rice crops (October-May), which are currently in the growing phase, were affected by rodent infestation in February. An assessment is being made of the number of hectares hit. Sowing of the 2012 winter rice and maize crops will begin in April/May.

At least six killed in flash floods in Venezuela

CARACAS — At least six children have been killed and three adults were reported missing in northwestern Venezuela following flash floods caused by torrential rains.

Yaracuy state governor Julio Leon told local television all victims lived in the town of Bolivar and belonged to the same family, which was apparently enjoying a picnic in a gully when the flash flood hit.

Heavy rains have been affecting the area for about two weeks causing flooding in many communities. According to Leon, rescue teams were searching for the missing.

2010 Human Rights Report

Venezuela is a multiparty constitutional democracy with a population of approximately 28 million. In 2006 voters reelected President Hugo Chavez Frias of the Fifth Republic Movement party. International observer missions deemed the elections generally free and fair but noted some irregularities. On September 26, voters elected 165 deputies to the National Assembly. Voting on election day was generally free and fair with scattered reports of irregularities.

Venezuela: Gobierno despliega operativo quirúrgico para damnificados del Sur del Lago

Mérida, 13 Ene. AVN .- Los gobiernos Nacional y del estado Mérida desplegaron un operativo quir=FArgico, de patologías menores, para 38 personas, que resultaron damnificadas por las lluvias registradas en la zona Sur del Lago de Maracaibo, específicamente en los municipios Colón, Sucre y Francisco Javier Pulgar del estado Zulia.

Así lo dio a conocer la directora de la Corporación Merideña de Salud (Corposalud), Nelly Molina, quien indicó que el abordaje médico-quir=FArgico se está implementando e forma simultánea en todos los albergues de la entidad andina y del Sur del Lago.
