Through UNICEF, the Foreign Ministry is supporting the continuation of education for Syrian children that have been forced by the conflict in Syria to flee from their homes into Lebanon.

Yesterday Foreign Minister Urmas Paet visited the Syrian refugee camp located in Zaatar, Jordan, 30 kilometres from the Syrian border, where so far 63 000 people have found refuge. Nearly half of them are children. There is already a total of 270 000 Syrian refugees in Jordan and the number is growing.

Rio de Janeiro, 19 June 2012 – Over 80 per cent of countries have reformed their water laws in the past twenty years as a response to growing pressures on water resources from expanding populations, urbanization and climate change.

In many cases, such water reforms have had positive impacts on development, including improvements to drinking water access, human health and water efficiency in agriculture.

Funding for development assistance to countries from Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Caucasus

19 April 2012, Baku, Azerbaijan - Estonia has signed an agreement with FAO that for the first time provides voluntary funding to the Organization's development programme.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva and the Estonian Minister of Agriculture Helir-Valdor Seeder at a ceremony on 18 April, the day before the opening of the Regional Conference for Europe.

The Foreign Ministry is donating 50 000 euros through the UN Children’s Fund UNICEF to support the organisation’s activities in ensuring that children who have been separated from their parents and have no guardian receive the necessary humanitarian aid for survival as well as protection from violence and from becoming victims of human trafficking. The UNICEF project aims to help at least 1200 Yemeni children as well as children that have fled from Somalia.

The Foreign Ministry is supporting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees with 50 000 euros for its education-related project in Palestine, the goal of which is to ensure that education is accessible to children in the Gaza Strip.

The Foreign Ministry is allocating funds from its humanitarian aid budget to support the activities of UNICEF in aiding the victims of flooding in Pakistan. The country, which was ravaged by floods a year ago, experienced greater monsoon rains that predicted, which have once again caused an emergency situation.
