1 NOVEMBER 1991

1. MOUNT LOKON VOLCANO IN NORTH SULAWESI FIRST ERUPTED THURSDAY 24 OCTOBER 1991, AT 09:31 HRS LOCAL TIME, FOLLOWED BY SEVERAL WEAKER ERUPTIONS. ERUPTION IS MAGMATIC (FRESH MOLTEN ROCK)
THROWING ASH AND SMOKE UP TO 2,000 METERS HIGH AND GLOWING BLOCKS UP TO 300 METRES DISTANCE FROM CRATER. WEAKER ERUPTIONS STILL CONTINUE TO DATE.

2. FEW CASUALTIES REPORTED. GLOWING BLOCKS CAUSED MINOR DAMAGE TO BUILDINGS. MAIN ROAD IN SUB-DISTRICT

From August 23 to September 5, the International Study Team on the Gulf Crisis comprehensively surveyed the impact of the Gulf Crisis on the health and welfare of the Iraqi population.

The Team consisted of eighty-seven researchers drawn from a wide variety of disciplines, including agriculture, electrical engineering, environmental sciences, medicine, economics, child psychology, sociology, and public health.

Team members visited Iraq's thirty largest cities in all eighteen Governorates, including rural areas in every part

1. LATEST SATELLITE WEATHER BULLETIN SHOWS THE LOCATION OF A MAJOR TYPHOON NAMED RUTH AT 14.6N (LATITUDE) AND 134.2E (LONGITUDE).

2. CURRENT INTENSITY IS 6.5 ON SCALE OF INTENSITY WITH 1 BEING LOWEST NUMBER AND 8 THE HIGHEST. OVER PAST 24 HOURS INTENSITY HAS RISEN BY 1.5.

3. UNDRO IN CONTACT WITH UNDP/UNDRO RESIDENT REPRESENTATIVES IN CHINA AND PHILIPPINES.

1. MAJOR EARTHQUAKE OCCURRED IN INDIA IN MOUNTANIOUS AREA APPROX 250 KM NE NEW DEHLI ON 20 OCTOBER AT 02.53 HRS LOCAL TIME (19 OCT 21.23 HRS GMT). US GEOLOGICAL SURVEY REPORTS PRELIMINARY
MAGNITUDE AND POSITION TO 7.1 ON RICHTER SCALE, LATITUDE 30,8 DEGREES NORTH, LONGITUDE 78,9 DEGREES EAST. NEW DELHI SEISMOLOGICAL OBSERVATORY MEASURED QUAKE AT 6.1 ON RICHTER SCALE.

1. US GEOLOGICAL SURVEY REPORTS EARTHQUAKE MEASURING 7,3 ON RICHTER SCALE STRUCK SOLOMON ISLANDS NEAR NORTH COAST OF SANTA ISABEL ISLAND ABOUT 200 KM NORTHWEST HONIARA, GUADALCANAL ON 14 OCTOBER AT 15:58H GMT. PRELIMINARY HYPOCENTER IS LATITUDE 7.7 DEGREES SOUTH, LONGITUDE 159.1 DEGREES EAST.

2. NO IMMEDIATE REPORTS ON DAMAGE OR CASUALTIES AVAILABLE. UNDRO IN CONTACT WITH UNDP/UNDRO LOCAL REPRESENTATIVE FOR FURTHER INFORMATION.
