1 May 2009 - Above average maize yields are seen in and Lesotho (+2%). In Swaziland (-3%), Botswana (-2%) and South Africa (0%) normal national average yields are expected. Below average national yields of about -7% to -10% are seen in Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.  

In Malawi, the Northern as well as the Southern Region have been dry since the start of the growing season and reduced yields of about -11% are forecasted. All maize growing regions have experienced dry conditions and will face yield reductions.

1 May 2009 - In Angola (-6%) and Zambia (-5%) the sorghum growing season has been dry up to now and local reductions to average yields are possible. Well above average sorghum yields are seen in Lesotho (+7%). Crop yield prospects are also normal to good in Botswana (-1%) and South-Africa (+1%).

 In Malawi, past 10 days some drought relief was seen. Still yield reductions are expected in many parts of the country although local differences are seen. National average yields are expected to be below average (-5%).

USAID's OIG was established on December 16, 1980, by statutory amendment to the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961.(1) On December 29, 1981, the President signed the International Security and Development Cooperation Act of 1981,(2) bringing the USAID Inspector General under the purview of the Inspector General Act of 1978.(3) OIG assumed audit and investigative oversight of USADF and IAF in 1999,(4) and MCC in 2004.(5)

Key aspects of the Federal Council Dispatch on the continuation of technical cooperation and financial assistance for developing countries

With its Message on the Continuation of Technical Cooperation and Financial Aid for Developing Countries 2009 - 2012, the Federal Council presented a unified strategy for the Swiss Government's development cooperation as a whole. Parliament also requested that development assistance be increased to 0.5% of GNI. At its meeting on 20 May 2009, the Federal Council decided in view of the current uncertain economic forecasts to submit a preliminary report.

ECRE Memorandum to the JHA Council - Guaranteeing Refugee Protection and Safeguarding Respect for Fundamental Rights

This JHA Council meeting will bring together Member States at a critical stage in taking forward the Common European Asylum System, and against the backdrop of recent events in the Mediterranean which could threaten the international framework of refugee protection and gravely undermine respect for fundamental principles of human rights law. Thematic Study of Support to Statistical Capacity Building: Evaluation of the Paris Declaration
