The number of people needing aid, now 9.7 million, is a moderate decrease from 10.2 million in June. But fighting in many parts of the region is a significant worry and will affect resources.
According to the newly released Mid-Year Review of Ethiopia’s Humanitarian Requirements Document (HRD), with the number of people requiring food assistance moving from 10.2 million (January, 2016) to 9.7 million (August, 2016).
The Humanitarian Requirements Document (HDR) issued on 12 August shows that US$612.4 million are urgently needed to address food and non-food needs for 9.7 million people.
Seasonal floods that followed El Niño-induced drought have already damaged crops. The devastation may be further exacerbated by La Niña, expected from October onwards.
