Canada Funds IOM Storm Relief in Southern Philippines

IOM has received an additional CAD$202,500 (USD 202,000) from the Canadian International Development Agency/International Humanitarian Assistance (CIDA/IHA) to help families displaced by Tropical Storm Washi (locally known as Sendong) in the southern Philippines.

The new funds will help IOM to provide shelter aid, cash for work programmes and non-food relief item kits to more families in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan - the two worst hit cities, where thousands of homes were damaged or destroyed by deadly floods triggered by the storm on December 16th 2011.

USAID Backs IOM Relief for Storm-Hit Families in Southern Philippines

IOM has received an additional US$ 600,000 (Php25.7 million) from the Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to deliver badly needed aid to families displaced by Tropical Storm Washi (locally known as Sendong) in Mindanao in the southern Philippines.

IOM Distributes Vital Aid to Flood Affected Families in the Philippines

Philippines - IOM has distributed critical humanitarian assistance to families displaced by Tropical Storm Washi (known locally as Sendong) in the southern Philippines and has begun essential work to improve the living conditions of the displaced sheltering in evacuation centres. A first batch of 255 shelter repair kits were distributed to families with partially damaged houses in Barangay Iponan in Cagayan de Oro and in Barangay Santiago in Iligan City. Both were among the areas worst hit by the flash floods triggered by Sendong.

IOM Races to Provide Shelter Aid for Displaced Families in Southern Philippines

IOM is racing to provide emergency shelter for thousands of families displaced by the deadly tropical storm that hit the southern Philippines on December 17th.

Tropical storm Washi, known locally as Sendong, sent torrents of water, mud and logs cascading through villages and two major cities on the island of Mindanao, destroying nearly 13,000 homes and displacing some 400,000 people. At least 1,250 people are known to have died.

IOM Aids Typhoon Sendong Victims in Southern Philippines

Philippines - IOM has released an initial USD 50,000 in emergency funds to support the Government of the Philippines' efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to thousands of victims of Typhoon Sendong (also known as Washi) in Iligan and Cagayan de Oro cities in the Philippines.

The storm, which hit the southern province of Mindanao on Friday (16/12) night, left at least 957 dead and 49 missing.
