Red Cross provides 22.6M Alternatibong Pangkabuhayan to typhoon-affected families

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) will provide Php 26.6 million worth of 'Alternatibong Pangkabuhayan' (Livelihood Recovery Program) to 1,850 families who were severely affected by typhoons Pedring and Quiel in Pampanga, Bulacan and Isabela.

This is the second phase of the 'Alternatibong Pangkabuhayan' provided by the Red Cross as part of its recovery program for disaster-stricken families.

Monthly price and food security update, October 2012

Highlights

  • Consumer price index decreased on a month-onmonth basis.

  • Diesel and gasoline decreased by 4 percent and 0.3 percent, respectively.

  • Fuel price adjustments resulted to year-to-date increase of Php 2.93 per liter for gasoline and Php 0.52 per liter for diesel.

  • On a month-on-month basis, the movement in the prices of main staples are within normal fluctuation.

  • Prices of selected commodities in Central Mindanao are generally stable on a month-onmonth, past 3 months-todate, and year-to-date.

One year on from two typhoons, residents look to a more resilient future

Of the 19 tropical cyclones that entered the Philippines’ territory in 2011, 10 of them brought significant destruction. Among them was Typhoon Nesat, which hit during the last week of September, and was immediately followed by Typhoon Nalgae, during the first week of October. The typhoons followed the same path and resulted in massive flooding in the Central and Northern Luzon Island.

Japan Red Cross completes shelter assistance to Ifugao typhoon victims

LAGAWE, Ifugao, Sept. 20 (PIA) --The Japan Red Cross (JRC) recently completed the delivery of materials for the construction of houses destroyed by typhoons Pedring and Quiel last year.

Provincial Red Cross Ifugao Chapter Head Randy Blanco received the materials consisting of concrete posts, galvanized iron sheets, and other aggregate housing materials as shelter assistance of the JRC to the 43 families rendered homeless by past calamities in Banaue, Kiangan, Lagawe, and Lamut.

LAGAWE, Ifugao, Sept 12 (PIA) -- The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) - Ifugao Chapter received today materials for the construction of houses to replace those that were totally damaged by typhoons Pedring and Quiel which devastated the province last year.

Randy Blanco, PRC chapter head, said that the materials from the the project dubbed as Transitional Shelter Assistance, will be distributed to the following municipalities: Lamut-6; Kiangan-12; Banaue-7 and Lagawe-8.

Thousands of families, students affected by Typhoons Pedring & Quiel benefit from PRC projects

MADDELA, Quirino, June 19 (PIA) -- A total of 3,713 families and 1,624 students in the municipalities of Maddela and Nagtipunan who were affected by typhoons Pedring and Quiel in September last year were benefited by the rehabilitation projects of the Philippine Red Cross.

The projects which were recently turned over to the beneficiaries by PRC Chairman Richard Gordon include rehabilitation of health facilities and classrooms, health equipment and supplies, community health education, and basic disaster management trainings.

PRC turns over rehabilitation projects to community

A total of 5,000 families and over 4,000 students who were affected by typhoons Pedring and Quiel in September last year in the northern provinces of Isabela and Quirino were benefited by the rehabilitation projects of the Philippine Red Cross.

PRC Chairman Richard J. Gordon led the turn over of the renovated health facilities and water system, as well as classrooms to local authorities in the provinces.

Japan Commits Php315 Million ODA for the restoration of disaster affected areas in the Philippines and disaster prevention

Japanese Ambassador Toshinao Urabe and Secretary of Foreign Affairs Albert F. Del Rosario exchanged notes for the “Non-project Grant Aid for the Restoration and Disaster Prevention” amounting to 600 million yen (approximately 315 million pesos) on April 27, 2012.

This project is for the recovery of devastated areas after several typhoons hit the Philippines in the last quarter of 2011 and damaged basic infrastructures such as roads, houses, public facilities and farmland, as well as for the establishment of disaster-prevention schemes in the country.
