Call for proposals: Canada Caribbean Disaster Risk Management (CCDRM) Fund

The Canada Caribbean Disaster Risk Management (CCDRM) Fund announces the third call for project proposals. Grants will be made on a competitive basis to support small-scale projects at the community level that deliver measurable results in natural disaster risk reduction and/or in the reduction of the negative impacts of climate change. Projects may range in duration from a few months to two years in maximum duration.

Priority will be given to projects in the $25,000 to $75,000 CDN range. Projects outside this range may be considered

European Commission grants EUR 5 million for its 7th disaster preparedness action plan in the Caribbean

As the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction sets to work in Geneva and the hurricane season approaches, the European Commission's humanitarian aid office (ECHO), which reports to European Commissioner Louis Michel, has granted EUR 7 million for its 7th disaster‑preparedness action plan in the Caribbean. Priority will be given to the most vulnerable and exposed communities. About 300 000 people will benefit directly.

Rep. Dominicana: Gobernante entrega 206 viviendas para damnificados

September storms pummel the Caribbean

Cuba, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Grand Cayman and the Turks and Caicos suffered the worst, as of now, during the 2008 hurricane season. Storms Fay, Gustav, Hanna, Ike and Josephine punished the Caribbean between August and September with strong winds and rains which gave rise to serious floods. Of the countries affected, Cuba and Haiti were the worst hit. Assistance and recovery efforts for the population will be extended over several months.
