This bulletin is being issued for information only. Following two bomb blasts in Algiers on 11 December, 60 people are known to have died. It is with immense sadness that Red Crescent volunteers identified their former colleague, Hind Boukhroufa as one of those who lost their lives. Ms. Boukhoufra is the previous head of the Algerian Red Crescent Society (ARCS) communication unit, and the daughter of the previous ARCS president. WFP mourns loss of aid worker in Algiers bombing

Rome, 12 December 2007 - The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) today mourned the loss of a staff member who was killed together with at least 45 other people in Tuesday's terrorist bombing in Algiers.

WFP Executive Director Josette Sheeran joined UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and others in condemning the attack and conveyed her condolences to the family of Gene Luna, the WFP staff member who died under the rubble.
