As a result of attacks on security and civilian targets by the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army in Laukkai (Kokang Self-Administered Zone) on 6 March, media sources reported that up to 20,000 people are estimated to have fled across the border into China. At least 30 people, including five civilians, were reportedly killed in the violence. Thousands of migrant workers from other parts of Myanmar have also fled the Laukkai area and are returning home.

  • Torrential rain has caused flooding in Aceh Tenggara, Aceh Province. The incident affected nearly 3,500 families and damaged 5 houses.

  • 245 houses were submerged by flood in Tapin District, South Kalimantan Province.

  • Flood also inundated 625 houses in Boalemo District, Gorontalo Province.

The Tail-End of a Cold Front brought cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over Mindanao. Residents in these areas are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides.

The effect of Tail-End of a Cold Front has weakened. However, Eastern Visayas and the Provinces of Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Island will continue to have cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms.

In January and February 2017, tail-end of a cold front brought cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over eastern regions of Mindanao island. These heavy rains caused landslides and flooding especially on low lying areas currently affecting 151,500 people in Caraga and Davao regions.
Continous rains in central Mindanao also affected 183,000 people in Lanao del Sur and Maguindanao.

The Mindanao Displacement Dashboard is a monthly publication of the Protection Cluster in Mindanao, Philippines, which is co-led by UNHCR with the Department of Social Welfare and Development. This publication aims to provide an overview of the protection environment of displacement incidents in Mindanao for each month. Displacement incidents were collected with the support of Protection Cluster members in Mindanao.

Disaster relief and response agencies, including the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), are continuously monitoring the possible impacts of the new tail-end of a cold front currently battering CARAGA and Davao Region.

According to the issued bulletin of state weather bureau PAGASA, the weather disturbance which was initially observed last February 15, has already weakened but will continue to bring light to moderate rains and thunderstorms in the two regions.

As of 19 February, over 30,700 people remain displaced in northeastern Mindanao (Caraga region) by flooding triggered by a series of weather systems since 8 January. At least 2,100 people are in 18 shelters, while most are staying with relatives and friends. Local authorities and NGOs, with support from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) are providing food and other relief items.

BUTUAN CITY, Feb. 6 (PIA) – Providing much needed aid to the 454 affected families situated in Agusan National High School (ANHS) was the aim of visiting Senator Juan Edgardo “Sonny” M. Angara during the distribution of about 500 packs of relief goods, Friday, Feb. 3.

The 46 remaining goods were given to the ANHS non-teaching personnel and those evacuees who helped carry the goods.

Following the massive flooding in some areas of Mindanao, World Vision will be distributing clean water kits that include Procter & Gamble (P&G) water purifier packets, filter cloth and jerry cans and hygiene kits in the next days.

“We initially aim to assist 2,500 families in the municipalities of La Paz and Loreto, Agusan del Sur. Let’s continue to uphold the families in prayer, those whose houses are still submerged, and especially for the protection of children from water-borne diseases,” says World Vision Acting National Director, Rommel Fuerte.

QUEZON CITY, Feb. 2 - The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Offices (FOs) X and CARAGA maintain their close coordination with concerned local government units (LGUs) as heavy rains brought by a Low Pressure Area (LPA) and tail end of a cold front resulting in massive flooding have hit several areas anew in both regions over the weekend.

The regions are now experiencing good weather condition, but floodwaters have not subsided yet, hindering residents to go back to their respective homes and keeping evacuation centers (ECs) still open.
