HIGHLIGHTS

Retail price of food: During the reporting quarter, the national average retail prices of rice and wholemeal wheat flour (atta) decreased slightly from the quarter of AprilJune 2015. The price of lentils (masur) started increasing in the previous quarter on the back of Ramadan (June-July 2015), whereas, it increased even further (9 percent) during the reporting quarter. However, the price of oil (palm oil) increased only a little (about 2 percent) during the period as compared to the price in the previous quarter.

The operation is in its third month and continues to support the affected vulnerable families in food security, emergency shelter and water and sanitation (WatSan) sectors. Floods, cyclones, tornados, and riverbank erosion, often occurring simultaneously, have had an impact on the lives and livelihoods of people living in coastal areas such as the Khulna and Bagerhat Districts of Southern Bangladesh.

Overview of Disaster Incidences in September, 2015

Flood situation deteriorated in September and along with consequent riverbank erosion, it severely affected much community. Other natural hazards in September include flash floods and land slide. Flash flood occurred on September 1 and 22. The rate of riverbank erosion affected several places in 17 districts. Landslides occurred in Cox's Bazar and Chittagong district. Apart from these hazards, embankment collapse, fire incidents and boat capsize occurred in September.
