Indonesia Humanitarian Snapshot (February - March 2013)

  • Floods and landslides killed 22 people in North Sulawesi in February. About 4,220 houses were damaged, 3,832 people were temporarily displaced.

  • Floods killed three people and temporarily displaced around 9,923 persons in Riau in February.

  • Floods killed three people and displaced around 1,145 families from six sub-districts Jayapura District, Papua.

Asia-Pacific Region 26 March - 1 April, 2013, Natural Disasters and Other Events being monitored by the OCHA Regional Office for the Asia-Pacific

Clashes on 20 Mar over a local dispute in Myanmar resulted in 40 fatalities and 61 injured. Flooding and landslides in West Java displaced nearly 6,500 families.

Solomon Islands + 5 others
Asia-Pacific region 19 - 26 February, 2013 - Natural disasters and other events being monitored by the OCHA Regional Office for the Asia-Pacific

Tropical Depression Crising passed just below the southern Philippines, causing landslides and flash flooding. Heavy rain also caused flash flooding and landslides across Western Indonesia. 10 people were killed and over 5,000 homes destroyed.

Asia-Pacific region 12 - 18 February, 2013 - Natural disasters and other events being monitored by the OCHA Regional Office for the Asia-Pacific

  1. Solomon Islands - A tsunami triggered by a large quake has struck the Santa Cruz islands (Temotu Province). Official reports show 394 houses were destroyed and 371 were damaged. 3,329 people are affected with 2,434 living in camps. 10 people were killed and 13 injured. The supply of safe drinking water remains a concern. Also, gov and NGO emergency stocks have been depleted. Source: OCHA

Asia-Pacific region 22 - 28 January, 2013 - Natural disasters and other events being monitored by the OCHA Regional Office for the Asia-Pacific

  1. Philippines - TC Bopha (Pablo) struck the southern Philippines in early December. The risk of floods and landslides due to heavy rains persists in typhoon-affected areas hampering humanitarian activities. The revised Action Plan was launched in Manila on 25 January asking for US$76 million. A low pressure area continues to affect areas in Mindanao causing flash floods and a landslide affecting nearly 40,000 people.

Indonesia: Floods (as of 18 Jan 2013) - Location Map

18 Jan 2013 - Torrential rains have caused heavy flooding in DKI Jakarta. Eleven people have died, two are missing and more than 18,000 people have been evacuated. Authorities have declared the highest emergency level.
