Malaysia: Help at hand for Johor flood evacuees

Over 100 Malaysian Red Crescent staff and volunteers took action this week to assist victims of the Johor floods in the south of Malaysia. The flooding forced more than 24,000 people to seek refuge in 71 relief centres, and resulted in the death of four adults and one child.

Rapid response

With experience from the major floods of 2006 and 2007, the Malaysian Red Crescent was quick to respond. The National Society activated their disaster operations centre and placed trained volunteers on standby.

MERCY Malaysia Assists Over 2,383 Families in Johor Flood

8 February 2011 - MERCY Malaysia sent three separate teams to Johor and has assisted about 6,581 beneficiaries from 2,383 families for its domestic floods response to the flood victims in Johor, Malaysia. "Since 31 January 2011, we have distributed a total of 2,383 hygiene kits at 39 locations in Johor. They include Bukit Tiram, Sg. Tiram, Kuala Sengka, Kg. Jawa Lenga, Kg. Peruh, Kg. Pucuh, Jementah and Buloh Kasap in Johor Bahru, Kluang, Pagoh and Segamat. The people in Pagoh also obtained primary health care check-ups when we set up our mobile

MERCY Malaysia Launches Flood Relief Fund

1 February 2011 - MERCY Malaysia is launching the Flood Relief Fund to support its domestic and overseas floods response. MERCY Malaysia is currently present in Johor, Malaysia and Ampara and Batticaloa, Sri Lanka for flood relief efforts.
