Tajikistan: Floods - May 2009

Disaster description

Prolonged and heavy spring rains at the end of May resulted in multiple floods and mudflows in 40 out of 58 districts. The districts of Khuroson, Pyanj, Qumsangir, Shahrinav, Rasht, Nurobod of Khatlon province and Districts under Direct Republic Rule (DDR) were the worst affected. The floods displaced 440 households or 3,000 people, who sheltered in three tented camps. As of 1 June, more than 12,000 people were in need of urgent assistance. (OCHA, 1 Jun 2009)
