The International Federation's Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF) is a source of un-earmarked money created by the Federation in 1985 to ensure that immediate financial support is available for Red Cross Red Crescent response to emergencies. The DREF is a vital part of the International Federation's disaster response system and increases the ability of national societies to respond to disasters.

Summary: CHF 169,213 was allocated from the Federation's DREF on 21 December 2006 to respond to the needs of the populations affected by the floods and landslides in Central Africa.

Congo) ha alertado sobre el estado de emergencia que se ha declarado en la ciudad de Mbuji-Mayi, situada en el centro del país, tras las lluvias torrenciales que hace unas semanas arrasaron numerosos barrios de esta urbe de 70.000 habitantes. Seg=FAn los datos facilitados por la Cáritas local, se calcula que al menos unas 800 familias han perdido sus hogares como consecuencia de los desprendimientos de tierras.

Congo: Help for 2,800 flood victims

BRAZZAVILLE, 27 November (IRIN) - Aid has begun to trickle in to help some of the 5,000 flood victims in Brazzaville, capital of the Republic of the Congo, according to a local official of an American aid body.

The International Partnerships for Human Development (IPHD) on Saturday began distributing rice, foam mats, mosquito nets, buckets, torches, blankets, washing powder and school books to 2,800 people, from the US$66,000 provided by the US embassy and the oil giant Chevron Texaco.

BRAZZAVILLE, le 20 novembre (IRIN) - Les pluies torrentielles qui se sont abattues sur Brazzaville, la capitale congolaise, provoquant de graves inondations, ont fait six morts et au moins 5 000 sans abris.

Congo: Six die as heavy rains continue to pound Brazzaville

BRAZZAVILLE, 17 November (IRIN) - Six people have died and at least 5,000 others rendered homeless by heavy rains that have caused extensive flooding in Brazzaville, capital of the Republic of Congo.

The rains have continued non-stop for the past three days, sweeping away houses and causing massive population displacement, a government official said on Friday on national radio.

BRAZZAVILLE, 16 November (IRIN) - Floods in several neighbourhoods of Brazzaville, capital of the Republic of Congo, have displaced thousands of people, many of whom have gone for days without food, clothing or shelter.
