Damage from floods and landslides in Serbia totals €11 mln

Belgrade, May 3, 2006 - Serbian Minister of Capital Investment Velimir Ilic said today that according to estimates of the Serbian government, the damage from floods and landslides in Serbia totals €11 million, while 500 million dinars have already been invested as an emergency intervention and advance for beginning of construction works.

Belgrade, April 25, 2006 - State Secretary of the Serbian Ministry of Health Nevena Karanovic stated today that in seven flood-stricken districts in Serbia health centres are working 24 hours a day but so far no mass intestinal infections have been recorded.

Romania breaks Danube dike to save villages

BUCHAREST, April 21 (Reuters) - Romania breached a major dike to divert floodwater threatening villages in the Danube delta, while Hungary evacuated thousands of people as swollen rivers spread more havoc across eastern Europe on Friday.

Almost 8,000 people have fled their homes in the Balkans. Further north in Hungary, authorities evacuated 4,500 more from three towns near the confluence of the Tisza and Koros rivers.

Serbia: Flood inflicts damage on 220,000 hectares of land and 3,000 houses

Belgrade, April 21, 2006 - Serbian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Ivana Dulic-Markovic said that according to first estimates, nearly 220,000 hectares of land and 3,000 houses are reported flooded in Serbia.

The water level of the Tisa River in Hungary is growing and said that dikes on this river were enforced so that they can resist further water flood increase by 50 centimetres, the Minister said.

She also warned that the Sava River is on the growth near Sabac and that services in charge must be on alert as long as there is a danger from floods.

Thousands of Romanians flee as Danube pours over

BISTRET, Romania, April 19 (Reuters) - Thousands of Romanians fled their homes on Wednesday as the rising riverwater of the Danube flooded more than 100 villages and threatened to destroy many others.

In southwest Romania hundreds of villagers in Bistret crowded into schools and hospitals with their livestock and poultry as rescue workers raced to repair a breached dam that has been seeping water for days, threatening several villages.

Serbia-Montenegro to cooperate with neighbors in flood protection

SRSG surveys flood situation in Obiliq/Obilic and Kosovo B Power Plant

PRISTINA - Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Kosovo (SRSG) Søren Jessen-Petersen, accompanied by Prime Minister Bajram Kosumi and Minister for Environment and Spatial Planning Ardian Gjini, today visited some of the flood affected areas in Obiliq/Obilic.
