April 4 (Reuters) - Five U.S. Marines were killed near al-Asad in Anbar province in western Iraq on Sunday when their seven-tonne truck rolled over in a flash flood, the military said late on Monday. Another U.S. soldier was killed after his patrol came under fire in Hit, also in Anbar province.

IPCC completes second year

The Iraq Property Claims Commission (IPCC) has been operational since March 2004, and has received a total number of 130,720 claims regarding property disputes resulting from actions of the former regime. To date, 20,016 claims have been decided, and IPCC, UNHCR and IOM continue to improve processing of claims to increase the speed and e.ciency of the claims procedure.

Since the beginning of February heavy rainfalls have flooded large areas of Iraq, mainly in the Northern Governorates, and displaced hundreds of families already living in a precarious situation.

The Iraqi Red Crescent Society (IRCS) quickly responded to the emergency needs of the people affected by the floods. The ICRC provided the IRCS with 1,000 food parcels and 300 kerosene heaters which are now being distributed to the affected families in Erbil Governorate.

BAGHDAD, 5 Feb 2006 (IRIN) - Continuous rainfall over the past three days in the capital, Baghdad, as well as in Tikrit and Mosul in northern Iraq, has forced 600 people out of their homes, according to government officials.

"We've received reports of nearly 400 displaced people in the suburbs of Baghdad due to strong rain in the past three days," said Khalid Abdul Kader, a senior official in the Baghdad mayor's office.
