Russian Federation: Flash Floods - Jul 2012

Overview

Torrential rains during the night of 6 Jul 2012 caused severe flash floods in Russia's southern Krasnodar region, which killed 172 people and inured almost 4,000. 3,000 people had to be evacuated, and 5,500 residents lost their property completely in the area's worst natural disaster in decades. (IFRC, 23 Jul 2012)

On 22 Aug, a flash flood killed four people in the southern Krasnodar region after heavy rain battered the area overnight causing many rivers to overflow and flood the houses and apartments of around 1,837 people (AFP, 22 Aug 2012).
