Philippines’ fishing community seeks sustainable solutions to chronic flooding

Report
ACT Alliance

Tired of being victims to annual flood waters that inundate their houses, residents of several villages along the shore of the largest lake in the Philippines are organising to either stop the flooding or find viable alternatives for their families.

They live around Laguna de Bay, a huge lake southeast of Manila, the country’s capital. Although the lake has long flooded during the annual typhoon season, it has grown worse in recent years. Residents say the water has risen higher and their communities have remained flooded longer than in the past.
