The Hong Kong Red Cross sincerely thanks the generous support from the Hong Kong public to our flood relief operation in South Asia in 2007.

Disaster Situation

Climate change induced the monsoon season started earlier in South Asia in 2007, heavy rainfall caused severe flooding and landslides covered Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and India. It is reported that around 3000 died and more than 10 million families were affected.

The Hong Kong Red Cross (HKRC) launched a fundraising appeal for South Asia Flood Relief on 13 August 2007.

1. Brief description of the general situation:

ADRA Nepal is implementing Post Disaster Rehabilitation Projects Water and Sanitation in Banke, Bardia district in partnership with Backward Society Education Nepal. The Constituency Election is over and in the first meeting of the Member of Constituency Assembly had first meeting on May 28 decided to declare Nepal is a Democratic Republic State. Big political change is happening and political parties were engaged to manage the big transformation.

- Initial reports indicate that the winter crop will yield substantially lower crops in the Mid and Far Western region, due to late winter rains.
