Yemen: Flash flooding destroys homes, kills dozens

SANAA, 5 Apr 2006 (IRIN) - The death toll from flash floods that have swamped Yemen in the last two days has risen to 25, according to the defence ministry.

"Heavy rains and flash floods over the previous two days have killed 25 people, including 12 children and four women, in addition to 15 injuries," the ministry's website noted. The ministry site added that heavy rains also destroyed 60 homes and caused considerable damage to scores of others. Livestock and roads were also affected.

Yemen floods kill at least 14, injure over 20

SANAA, April 4 (Reuters) - Floods caused by torrential rains in Yemen have killed at least 14 people and injured over 20 others over the last two days, government officials said on Tuesday.

The fatalities include three young brothers who were killed when floods swept a huge rock over their house in Dhamar governorate, about 100 km (60 miles) south of the capital Sanaa, the officials told Reuters.

Floods destroyed dozens of houses, agricultural land and livestock in other provinces in Yemen, which is witnessing seasonal heavy rains.

Death toll from floods, lightning in Yemen rises to 25

SANAA, April 5, 2006 (AFP) - At least 25 people have been killed in Yemen in floods and lightning brought on by three days of torrential rains, the defense ministry's website said Wednesday.

Witnesses and official sources said Tuesday that 12 people died on Monday alone.

According to the defense ministry's website, 15 people were also injured after floods swept through eight provinces of the impoverished country.
