Dr. Faghih Open up Relief and Rescue Logistic Center in Southwest of the Country

Coinciding with the last day of the Red Crescent week, the Relief and Rescue Logistic Center was kicked off in south west of the country by attendance of the President of the Red Crescent Society, Dr. Faghih in Ahvaz, Kohouzestan province on 14 May 2011.

“Last year nearly 10, 420 earthquakes shook the country, out of which the number of 137 happened with the magnitude of more than 4 on the Richter scale” Dr. Faghih said.

Quakes hit south Iran: report

TEHRAN - A series of earthquakes hit southern Iran's Kerman province on Thursday, damaging dozens of houses in the affected villages, state television website said.

The strongest, at 6.0-magnitude, hit near the town of Mohammadabad-Rigan at around 12:08 pm (08:38 GMT) and was followed by a 4.8-magnitude aftershock at 12:13 pm (08:43 GMT), the report said.

Earlier on Thursday Mohammadabad-Rigan was hit with jolts measuring 5.1 and 4.0.

Local officials said the earthquakes caused no casualties.

Reporting from Beirut - A powerful earthquake struck a sparsely populated district of southeastern Iran, killing at least 11 people, injuring at least 40 and damaging 1,800 homes, news reports said Tuesday.

The magnitude 6.5 quake late Monday struck 30 villages populated by no more than 4,000 people, state radio reported.

Iran: Deputy Kerman Gov - 6 dead, 21 wounded in Fahraj quake so far

Kerman, Dec 21, IRNA - Deputy Kerman Governor in Political and Security Affairs said here Tuesday based on reports thus far, Monday night quake has claimed six lives and injured 21 others.

Javad Kamali added in an interview with IRNA Tuesday morning, "The inflicted damage ay residential regions, facilities, and infrastructures of the region seem to be very heavy."

He reiterated, "The situation in villages access to which is difficult has still remained unknown and efforts aimed at opening access routs to them are still underway."

Iran: 6.5-magnitude earthquake hits town of Hosseinabad

At 10.12pm local time (18:42 UTC) on 20 December 2010, a 6.5-magnitude earthquake jolted the town of Hosseinabad in Kerman province in south-eastern Iran.

According to latest reports, at least 4 people were killed and 26 have been injured. Over 30 villages in the province have been affected, and access to some villages is difficult.

The earthquake was felt in the provinces of Kerman, Sistan-Baluchestan and Hormozgan and only lasted 30 seconds, but it was followed by 27 aftershocks, the most powerful of which was a 5.0-magnitude tremor.

Iran quake kills seven, wrecks villages

TEHRAN - A 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck southeastern Iran, wrecking villages, bringing down power lines, and killing up to seven people and injuring hundreds more, Iranian media reported on Tuesday.

The late Monday quake, with its epicentre near the town of Hosseinabad in Kerman province, was followed by more than 30 further tremors, including one of 5.0 magnitude, the Mehr news agency said, quoting the geophysics department of Tehran university.

State media reported that mild tremors continued into Tuesday near the epicentre of the main quake.
