TIRANA, Sept 12, 2009 (AFP) - Two moderate earthquakes jolted mountainous northeast Albania on Saturday, but no casualties were reported, the Albanian Seismology Institute said.

The earthquakes, which struck shortly after 8:00 pm (1800 GMT), were of 4.3- and 3.1-magnitude respectively, the authorities said, adding that the epicentre was in the border region with Macedonia, near the town of Peshkopia.

"Following the two earthquakes, the seismic activity in the region is normal and there is no reason for people to panic," the institute said in a statement released in capital
