This Report is separated into two volumes which share the same narrative: the Regional Human Development Report – the first volume – covers the entire region, while deepening the analysis on Latin America; and this current Caribbean Human Development Report – the second volume – approaches the multidimensional challenges of sustainable development and human progress taking into consideration the particularities of the Caribbean.

The Canada Caribbean Disaster Risk Management (CCDRM) Fund announces the third call for project proposals. Grants will be made on a competitive basis to support small-scale projects at the community level that deliver measurable results in natural disaster risk reduction and/or in the reduction of the negative impacts of climate change. Projects may range in duration from a few months to two years in maximum duration.

Priority will be given to projects in the $25,000 to $75,000 CDN range.

DUCOS, Martinique, Nov 29 (Reuters) - A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3 struck near the Caribbean island of Martinique on Thursday, sending tremors and panic through the region but causing little damage, witnesses said.

Residents screamed and fled into the streets as the deep quake rumbled for nearly 10 minutes.

Christian ESTROSI, Secrétaire d'Etat à l'Outre-Mer, confirme le séisme de magnitude 7,3 qui affecte nos compatriotes de Martinique et de Guadeloupe.

L'épicentre du tremblement de terre se situe à 15 km au nord de Saint-Pierre en Martinique. Le séisme s'est produit à 145 km de profondeur et il a été ressenti jusqu'à Porto Rico.

Christian ESTROSI précise que, à la Martinique, on dénombre une centaine de malaises, ainsi que six personnes blessées après défenestration.
