Conflict and disasters
Over the last 5 decades, Colombians have been sorely affected by the armed conflict, through forced recruitment and intimidation, kidnapping and disappearance, and blockades of whole towns by both military and guerrillas. The result? Large-scale internal displacement and refugee flows to neighbouring countries.
These problems have been exacerbated by Colombia's exposure to recurring natural disasters, including floods, volcanic eruptions, drought, landslides, tsunamis, forest fires and earthquakes.
