President Maithripala Sirisena's decision to give dry rations to farmers affected by the drought is being carried out continuously.

The program is covering 13 districts and the items given include flour, dhal, sugar, lentils and canned fish. Farmers selected by District Secretaries and Divisional Secretaries are issued this dry ration through the co-operatives.

President Sirisena recently made a visit to Kabithigollawa to look into the problems faced by the famer community due to the drought and instructed to provide dry rations as we as drinking water.

As of 18 August, 301,500 families had been affected and 44,683 displaced by flooding in 35 districts.
At least 9,850 houses have been destroyed and 383 schools are being used as temporary shelters. Crops worth tens of millions of dollars have been destroyed and over 500 industries have shut down. Search and rescue operations have completed, and the Government and Cluster partners are providing assistance including food,
NFIs, hygiene kits, WASH supplies and education materials. A total of US$11.3 million has been committed to the flood response.

The program to distribute dry rations to people affected by the drought in Anuradhapura District is being conducted successfully.

The District Secretary of Anuradhapura R.M. Wanninayaka said that though there were some issues, they have given the necessary instructions to the officials to continue with the program.

To obtain this relief, working in the designated places is essential. Upto now there are 1,013 working places all over the district. The dry rations are distributed through the Cooperatives and the Sathosa outlets.
