Brazil: Drought - May 2012

Disaster description

The lack of rain in the North East has placed 450 municipalities in emergency and affected almost 4 million people. The federal government allocated R$ 2.7 billion (approximately US$ 1.35 billion) to assist drought victims in the region. These funds will be used for water distribution and support for farmers. The Government has also created the Integrated Committee in the Fight against Drought. (OCHA, 14 May 2016)
