GOVERNMENT OF HONDURAS WELCOMES INTERNATIONAL ASSISTANCE.
Inter-Agency field mission concludes its assessment

1. The Inter-Agency Assessment Mission (WFP, PAHO/WHO, UNDP) together with the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC) team finished its three-day mission to the most affected areas in the Departments of Cortes, Atlantida, Colon and Yoro (northern Atlantic coast).

2. Weather conditions have improved significantly in the affected areas, with the flood waters receding and the rivers (Ulua, Chamelecon, Aguan and Lean) returning to their normal

Honduras Floods Situation Report No.4

1.The UNDAC team, together with representatives from UNDP, WFP, FAO, PAHO/WHO, the Government and Comision Permanente de Contingencias ( COPECO ), has carried out an assessment mission to the affected areas, and is discussing the findings with the authorities. Full report will be given in next situation report.

2. Approximately 15,000 families in the departments of Atlantida, Yoro and Colon are affected by the floods. There is substantial damage to agriculture ( both subsistance and cash crops ), as well as to roads, bridges and aqueducts.

Monthly Information Report Ethiopia November 1996 - No. 10

HIGHLIGHTS
Ethiopia is expecting a record meher harvest - over 20 percent increase in yield as compared with the previous years harvest - reducing food aid requirements in 1997.

Local purchases and export of surplus production in 1997 likely to be part of the main recommendations of the FAO/WFP joint assessment mission.

Fertiliser sales reach 251,000 MTS for the main 1996/97 cropping season, slightly disappointing and below expectations; pledges for 1997 amount to 270,000 MTS.
