UN Angola envoy meets Zimbabwe's Mugabe

HARARE, Nov 12 (AFP) - UN special envoy for Angola Issa Diallo on Thursday held talks with Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe, and repeated fears of seeing renewed civil war break out between Luanda and its foes.

"The situation in Angola is becoming worse and worse and war is on its way there," Diallo told journalists after meeting Mugabe. He added that he had sought advice from the Zimbawean leader on how to handle the conflict.

"We need to join forces -- the UN, regional and sub-regional groups -- and say louder 'Enough is enough',"

Southern Africa: El Niño Food Security Response Report

1. SUMMARY OF REGIONAL SITUATION
While the intensity of the El Niño weather phenomenon continued high February, its impact on the 97/98 crop growing season in Southern Africa has not been very significant. The widespread drought anticipated by the patterns of previous events has not materialized. Satellite derived images of vegetation growth through january indicate that there were virtually no areas of drought in the region. Cold Cloud Duration estimates of cumulative rainfall for most growing areas were close or slightly above the historical averages. Mid season field crop assessments
