Yemen: ADRA Granted Award for Emergency Support

SILVER SPRING, Md. – The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) has been awarded nearly $900,000 by the United States of Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) to continue assisting displaced persons through ADRA’s Yemen Emergency Support (YES) Project.

The additional funding comes a year after the project’s launch in February 2010, and will further enable ADRA to expand the project’s programs to reach a greater number of internally displaced persons (IDP’s) in the Al Jawf Governorate.

Yemen: ADRA gives hope to people with disabilities

SILVER SPRING, Md. - In western Yemen, where general attitudes toward people who are physically disabled often range from misunderstanding to fear, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is implementing a project to educate communities about disability and prevention, and provide people who have a disability access to income generating activities.

"Many people think that congenital disabilities are a sign of evil while acquired disabilities are simply part of life," says Miriam Watt, program director for ADRA Yemen.

Escalating crisis in Yemen: ADRA responds to needs of IDPs

SILVER SPRING, Md. - In northern Yemen, where an ongoing conflict between the Yemeni Government and Al Houthi rebels has displaced an estimated 150,000 people, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is implementing an initial response to aid civilians displaced by the violence in the Al-Jawf Governorate.

ADRA's response is targeting more than 300 families, or approximately 2,000 people, within the affected areas, located approximately three hours north of the capital city of Sana'a in the Al-Jawf Governorate, an area where no other United Nations (UN) agencies

Health a priority in ADRA projects worldwide

Silver Spring, Maryland -- As World Health Day is observed on April 7, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) continues to address primary health needs worldwide.
ADRA sponsors a number of basic health care projects such as mother/child health, HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention, and maternal mortality prevention. Many of the projects focus on activities like immunizations, nutritional intake, sanitation systems, and improving access to clean, potable water.
