U.S. Government and MoPHP Help Yemeni Midwives Serve Isolated Communities

The U.S. government and the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MoPHP) today held the closing ceremony for 60 midwives from Sana’a, Ibb and Taiz who are now ready to better serve isolated communities after receiving training and medical equipment through the U.S.-funded Private Provider Midwives (PPM) activity.

U.S. Humanitarian Assistance and the Situation in Yemen

President Obama has decided to increase U.S. humanitarian assistance to Yemen by $29.6 million, to $42.5 million this fiscal year. This assistance will provide food, water and sanitation, shelter, and health care to over 280,000 individuals displaced by the conflict in northern Yemen, as well as refugees in southern Yemen.

The United States urges other donors to support international agencies working to meet these urgent humanitarian needs, as the United Nation's Humanitarian Response Plan remains woefully underfunded. We also call on all parties to ensure the safety and rights

Yemen: U.S. Embassy and MOPIC Sign Agreement on Food Assistance

May 2, 2010

On May 2, Vice Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Hisham Sharaf Abdullah and U.S. Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Angie Bryan signed an agreement to allocate $4.66 million in U.S. Department of Agriculture aid to Yemen for development projects across the country. The agreement will help Yemen achieve food security and boost Yemen's capacity to respond to food-related disasters around the country.

The agreement pledges $2 million to renovate and upgrade the Aden Republican Hospital, and it dedicates $2.66 million

USDA Releases Final Rule on Food Assistance Program Regulations

KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 7, 2009-Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said today that an additional 51,700 tons of agricultural commodities, valued at nearly $80 million, will be provided to children in low-income, food-deficit countries under USDA's McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program for fiscal year 2009. This assistance is in addition to $95.5 million allocated for fiscal 2009 for the McGovern-Dole Program that were announced in December 2008.
