Foreign Office gives update on countries featured in Human Rights and Democracy Report

The Foreign Office has published new reporting on 28 Countries of Concern, along with updates on the case study countries featured in the annual human rights report. The quarterly updates cover the period from July to September 2012.

The 2011 Human Rights and Democracy Report is online to make it as accessible to the public as possible. It highlights the UK’s human rights policies and concerns on key issues, and features 28 Countries of Concern where the FCO has the most serious wide-ranging human rights concerns.

Yemen ceasefire welcomed

Foreign Secretary David Miliband and International Development Secretary Douglas Alexander have welcomed the ceasefire between the Government of Yemen and the Huthis.

High level meeting on Yemen: Chairman's statement

International effort to achieve stability in Yemen

The UK will host a high-level meeting on 27 January to discuss how the international community can address the social and economic issues in Yemen.

UK aid for displaced Yemenis as fighting intensifies

Douglas Alexander today increased the UK government's support to those driven out of their homes by the ongoing conflict in Yemen, by =A32 million.

The International Development Secretary's announcement follows the recent UN Flash Appeal which was launched following the outbreak of intensified fighting in and around the Sa'dah Governorate in northern Yemen.

As many as 150,000 people have now been displaced by the conflict. Large numbers of these are women and children who are especially in need of protection and security.
