Syrian Arab Republic: Armed conflict is causing large scale displacement and severely affecting people's safety and livelihoods.
Libya: Residual humanitarian needs mainly relate to internal displacement. The most vulnerable are those living in IDP settlements and camps, which are located in Tripoli, Benghazi and in the surrounds of Sirte, Misrata, Tarhouna and Dirj.
Iraq: Insecurity and protracted displacement continues to create significant humanitarian needs for many Iraqis.
UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs:
Food Security and Malnutrition
A large part of the country is facing food insecurity, malnutrition, lack of safe water, inadequate health services and displacement of civilians. A significant number of humanitarian partners are on the ground, but they need resources to sustain ongoing operations and expand to other areas of need.
UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs:
SAHEL
A severe humanitarian emergency is affecting the Sahel region (Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, Chad, Nigeria, Cameroon and the Gambia). Alarming food insecurity and malnutrition conditions have emerged in the wake of drought and poor harvests.
SOUTH SUDAN
South Sudan continues to face considerable humanitarian challenges. Poor harvests, soaring food and fuel prices, conflict and displacement led to rising hunger and malnutrition across the country.
UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs:
11 Dec 2009 - As fighting between Yemeni
Government troops and Al Houthi forces enters a fifth month, aid resources
in Hajjah and Amran are strained by the continuing influx of IDPs.
UNHCR, 10 Nov 2009 - UNHCR is extremely concerned about the
recent escalation of the conflict in northern Yemen and its impact on civilian
population. We again appeal for the protection of civilians and secure
and unhindered access for humanitarian workers to deliver much needed assistance.
Displaced families from embattled Sa'ada governorate continue
to arrive to Al Mazrak camp in Hajja governorate where the past two days
have seen a significant increase in the number of arrivals. On average,
130 to 140 families arrived to Al Mazrak camp both on Saturday and Sunday
