Secretary General affirms OIC’s commitment to Yemen’s security and stability

The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu has underscored the OIC's support for the initiative of the Gulf Cooperation Council aimed to organize between the parties in order to find a way out of the current crisis and preserve Yemen's stability, security and unity.

OIC dispatches field hospital to serve IDPs in Yemen

The hospital will provide medical services to more than 30 thousand IDPs scattered among the camps run by the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees, and the UAE Red Crescent-managed camp. The OIC will operate the field hospital for a year from the date of delivery in coordination with the Ministry of Health in Yemen.

The hospital will be set up on a plot of land allocated by the Yemeni Government. It can accommodate 500 people a day for outpatient medical check-ups. It also offers up to twenty beds for inpatients, in addition to an ambulance to be used for the transfer

OIC humanitarian delegation visits IDPs in Yemen

The humanitarian delegation of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) currently on a visit to Yemen conducted a visit to Al-Mazraq camp that hosts internally displaced people (Dips') in Hajja Governorate. The camp is near Al-Malahidh region in Sa'ada province (North Yemen). Through this visit, the OIC delegation sought to take stock of the conditions of displaced people and assess their needs.

OIC Secretary General reiterates the OIC's solidarity with Yemen; calls for a cease-fire during the holy month of Ramadan

The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, reiterated the OIC's unflinching position in support of Yemen's territorial unity and integrity, stability, and security. He condemned the voices that incite hatred and violence among people of the same nation.

He called for a cease-fire in the province of Saada, Yemen, in line with the values embodied by the holy month of Ramadan, notably the rejection of violence and the promotion of tolerance and reconciliation.

Ihsanoglu calls for the supply of helicopters to deliver aid to flood victims in Yemen

The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, announced that, based on information received from the OIC mission to Yemen, it turns out that the scope and size of material and human losses in areas affected by the floods which swept through eastern Yemen, exceed what has been reported by the media.

OIC mission to provide assistance and assess flood damage in Yemen

The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has assigned an OIC team to visit Yemen on 27 October 2008 on a mission led by the Director of Humanitarian Affairs. The team will tour the regions affected by the recent floods that hit the provinces of eastern Yemen.

The mission will inspect the damage and assess first hand the humanitarian needs of the victims and the extent of the relief work requirements. The mission will provide urgent assistance to flood victims.

Jeddah - 25th October 2008: - The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, extended his sincere sympathy to the government and people of Yemen following the devastating floods caused by torrential rains, causing a grave humanitarian crisis in the governorates of Hadramaut and Mahra.
