Yemen: Emarati field hospital provides healthcare to floods victims

Sana'a - The UAE Field Hospital, set up by the UAE Armed Forces in the Yemeni city of Seyoun, has started to provide healthcare services to the people affected by the floods which hit several provinces in Yemen.

MSF and MSF Podcasts: Awhar, Yemen - A team from the international medical humanitarian organization Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) assisting refugees in the south of Yemen found 39 dead bodies on the shore between Friday, October 31 and Saturday, November 1.

The refugees said they were coming from the port city of Bosasso in Somalia, fleeing from war and extreme poverty.

Yemen: Districts of Sayun and Shibam (as of 31 Oct 2008)

In late October 2008 the third tropical cyclone of the season caused heavy rains and flash floods in Yemen. The floods have killed about 100 persons and left approx. 20 000 people homeless. Qatar Charity allocates 1 million QAR as emergency response to Yemen flood

Doha, 31 October 2008 - Qatar Charity has allocated 1 million Qatari Riyals (around 275,000 USD) as initial response for the people affected by flooding in the governorates of Hadramaut and Maharah in south-eastern and south-western Yemen over the past four days. The money will be used to provide food, shelter and health services to the displaced people.

RCA delivers relief materials to Yemen flood victims

Sana'a - The UAE Red crescent Authority (RCA) has intensified its humanitarian efforts to ease the plight of the people affected by the floods which hit Yemen recently.

Yemen - Loss of crops and damage to farming land by floods

A joint assessment by various UN organizations, IOM, ECHO and non-governmental organizations to Hadramut, a southern province of Yemen, has found that food could be an issue for flood victims for some time to come.

Scores of people have been killed in the province and several tens of thousands of people displaced by floods caused by a tropical storm last week.

Several countries in the Middle East and North Africa region have experienced unprecedented flooding in the past month. At the end of October, floods in the Eastern provinces of Yemen displaced approximately 20-25,000 people, severe floods hit East- and North-Eastern Morocco, and heavy rains and subsequent flooding in Iran have caused significant damage to infrastructure. Flooding in Yemen (as of 30 Oct 2008)

Widespread flooding swept over eastern Yemen after Tropical Storm Three drenched the country with heavy rains on October 24-25, 2008. The floods left 180 dead and displaced 20,000, said the World Health Organization. The floods destroyed homes, and damaged water, phone, and power networks.

Yemen: Flash floods cause havoc

The Red Cross Red Crescent is helping thousands of people who have lost their homes and livelihoods to flooding in the south of the country.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has released 220,000 Swiss francs (201,000 US dollars/160,170 euro) from its disaster relief emergency fund to help thousands of people affected by flash floods in Yemen.

Yemen flood appeal - 30 Oct 2008

A two-day torrential rain and storm on Oct 24th and 25th has caused severe flooding in the eastern part of Yemen. Two governorates - Hadramout and Al-Mahra - were declared as disaster areas.

Hadramout:

- 560 houses totally damaged in the districts of Tarim, Sah, Shibam, Qatun and Wadi Al-Ayen

- 48 people reported missing

- 60% electricity supply has been cut off

Al-Mahra:

- At least 10 persons killed

- 487 houses damaged

- 280 farms damaged

- 447 fishermen lost

- 31 small fishing boats lost at sea

Yemen flood relief

Please Help Homeless Flood Survivors in Yemen!

Severe flash floods in the Hadramout and Al-Mahrah regions of Yemen have killed about 100 persons and left approximately 15,000 others homeless.

Mercy-USA for Aid and Development is sending a Disaster Response Team to the affected areas. This team will assess the needs and recommend the most appropriate way to respond. However, preliminary information indicates that one of the most pressing needs is emergency shelter items like tents and blankets.

Mobile hospitals for disaster area in Yemen

In principle, the Netherlands will contribute to sending mobile hospitals to areas of Yemen affected by heavy flooding.' RCA to airlift 40 tones of relief to Yemen

A UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) relief plane will take off today to Makkala to deliver humanitarian assistance to population affected by the recent flash floods which killed scores of people and damaged properties in Yemen.

The relief will be airlifted in implementation of instructions given by President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to dispatch urgent humanitarian assistance to the flood-victims in Yemen.

Ihsanoglu calls for the supply of helicopters to deliver aid to flood victims in Yemen
