DOHA, 9 décembre 2012 (IRIN) - Au cours de ces 30 dernières années, les catastrophes naturelles, y compris les évènements climatiques extrêmes, ont affecté 50 millions de personnes dans le monde arabe, selon un nouveau rapport de la Banque mondiale. Le rapport spécule sur un scénario terrifiant de hausse régulière des températures de plus de 50 degrés Celsius d’ici à la fin du siècle, ce qui pourrait engendrer une cascade de catastrophes, selon les experts.

Climate change: In the Arab world, building fridges to live in an oven

DOHA, 5 December 2012 (IRIN) - In the last three decades, 50 million people in the Arab world have been affected by natural disasters, many of them extreme climate events, according to a new report by the World Bank. The report projects the horrific scenario of temperatures regularly rising over 50 degrees Celsius by the turn of the century, which experts fear could lead to countless more disasters.

Ban appoints Abdullah Al Matouq as Humanitarian Envoy for Kuwait

28 November 2012 – Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appointed Abdullah Al Matouq of Kuwait to work closely with the United Nations humanitarian chief to build stronger partnerships in Kuwait and the Persian Gulf region.

As the Humanitarian Envoy for Kuwait, Mr. Al Matouq will “ensure stronger linkages” between the UN and decision-makers in Kuwait and the region with the overall objective of supporting multilateral humanitarian response efforts, according to the announcement of his appointment.

Kuwaiti Contribution to CERF Reaches $1 million for 2012

24 August 2012, New York: The Government of Kuwait donated US$450,000 to the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) at a meeting with Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Catherine Bragg, in UN headquarters.

The Kuwait Permanent Representative to the United Nations, H.E. Mr. Mansour Al-Otaibi, presented checks worth $450,000 to the Fund. With this additional contribution, the Government of Kuwait has given $1 million to CERF in 2012.

Government of Kuwait Reaffirms Support for IOM Humanitarian Efforts

IOM Director General William Lacy Swing yesterday met with Ambassador Dharar Abdul-Razzak Razzooqi, Kuwait's Permanent Representative at the Organization's headquarters in Geneva.

The meeting took place on the occasion of the Government of Kuwait's contribution of USD $500,000 in support and recognition of IOM's global humanitarian activities. The contribution, formally presented by the Ambassador, is Kuwait's ninth annual contribution to IOM.

KUWAIT CITY/DUBAI, 19 October 2011 (IRIN) - Among the aid agencies that poured into Somalia after famine was declared in July were organizations such as the Arab Federation of Doctors, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Establishment of the United Arab Emirates, and the Deniz Feneri Association of Turkey.

They came with their own style.
