SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, Aug 21 (Reuters) - Tropical Storm Irene strengthened as it barreled across the Caribbean toward Puerto Rico on Sunday on a course that could take it to Florida later in the week.

MIAMI, Aug 20 (Reuters) - Tropical Storm Irene formed east of the Leeward Islands on Saturday and was expected to become a hurricane in the next two days heading on a northwestward track through the Caribbean that may threaten Florida.

En alerta el Caribe por Tormenta tropical Emily

La tormenta tropical Emily mantiene este martes en estado de alerta a las islas del Caribe, donde comienzan a sentirse las fuertes lluvias, las ráfagas y las inundaciones costeras.

El Centro Nacional de Huracanas de Estados Unidos (CNH) llamó a los países del área a mantenerse atentos, pues está previsto que el ciclón aumente su intensidad en las próximas 24 horas, reporta Prensa Latina.

De acuerdo con el meteorólogo Javier Serrano, Emily tiene vientos máximos sostenidos de 65 kilómetros por hora y se espera que aumente hasta los 97 entre este martes y el miércoles.
