The President today declared a major disaster exists in the Territory of the U.S. Virgin Islands and ordered Federal aid to supplement Territory recovery efforts in the area struck by severe storms, flooding, rockslides, and mudslides associated with Tropical Storm Tomas during the period of November 8-12, 2010.

Following is a summary of key federal disaster aid programs that can be made available as needed and warranted under President Obama's major disaster declaration issued for the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Assistance for the Territorial and Local Governments Can Include as Required:

-Payment of not less than 75 percent of the eligible costs for repairing or replacing damaged public facilities, such as roads, bridges, utilities, buildings, schools, recreational areas
