Introduction

1. This document provides a report of a lessons-learned workshop on the UNHCR emergency operation in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan between June and November 2010.

2. The workshop was held in Istanbul, Turkey, on 6-7 December 2010, and convened by UNHCR's Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific (RBAP) and Regional Office for Central Asia (ROCA). Additional support was provided by the Division of Emergency and Security (DESS) and the Policy Development and Evaluation Service (PDES). Executive Summary

Introduction

1. Following a global evaluation on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), in 2003 Central Asia became the sixth DIPECHO region to be targeted by the DIPECHO Programme after Central America, Andean Community, Caribbean, South Asia and South East Asia. Since 2003 DG ECHO has implemented four DIPECHO action plans in Central Asia (Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan), channeling € 15,000,000 to various disaster preparedness activities.
