KYIV, 6 July 2017 – The first group of 20 Ukrainians gathered today in Kyiv for a four-day intensive training course on dialogue competencies, organized by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine.

The course was developed by a group of Ukrainian experts, representing various schools of dialogue facilitation and mediation. Its purpose is to build a network of people able to organize and run dialogue across the country, in a bid to enhance social cohesion, prevent or resolve conflicts between groups with differences and support the planning and implementation of reforms.

In 2016, almost 1.3 million applications for international protection were made in the EU+. This was a 7 % decrease compared to 2015 when close to 1.4 million applications were lodged. However, the significant increase in asylum applications over the past two years led to a growth in decisions issued at first instance: in 2016, EU+ countries issued close to 1.15 million first-instance decisions, an increase of 84 % compared to 2015. Also decisions issued in second instance rose in 2016 compared to 2015, by 21%.

First 25 schemes to form the essential stock of the antitoxin produced in Canada were provided by the United Nations Development Program. UNDP supported the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and provided antitoxin against botulism worth 2,5 mln Hryvnia as humanitarian aid._

DONETSK FILTER STATION DE-ENERGIZED BY SHELLING:

The WASH Cluster was informed, that during the night of 30th June / 1st July 2017 Donetsk Filter station (DFS) was de-energized due to shelling. Voda Donbasa (VD) staff working at the DFS were evacuated and the DFS is not treating water, having stopped for the 12th time in 2017.

FOREWORD

The year 2015 marked the 10th anniversary of the Global Shelter Cluster, the inter-agency coordination mechanism for shelter response. During these ten years, coordination has improved in consistency, shelter responses have grown in scale, and there are more people with experience in shelter programming, but people continue to lose their dwellings and be displaced due to conflict and natural disasters. Global humanitarian shelter needs continue to greatly exceed the capacity and resources to respond.

Ukrainian firefighters are battling to contain a forest fire inside the irradiated exclusion zone around the Chernobyl nuclear plant, officials say.

The fire erupted around midday on June 29 during tree cutting works at the Lubyanskoye Forestry and spread to an area of some 25 hectares by early June 30, the emergency services said.

More than 100 firefighters and scores of trucks and aircraft were dispatched to the area, a statement said.

  • More than 2000 buildings have been impacted by various forms of shelling since the start of the conflict, with 16% of these being multi-story buildings and 82% being private homes.
