L’Envoyée spéciale du Secrétaire général pour la région des Grands Lacs, Mme Mary Robinson, a présenté, ce matin, au Conseil de sécurité, son « Cadre de l’espoir », un document qui définit sa vision et une approche « différente » pour permettre un vrai changement susceptible de mener à la paix, à la sécurité et au progrès économique.

Agree on Task Force Operations Concept Adhering to International Human Rights Laws

Strongly condemning ongoing attacks and atrocities carried out in Central Africa by the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebel group, the Security Council this afternoon urged swift implementation of United Nations and African Union strategies to address the threat through cooperation of all countries, organizations and peacekeeping operations in the region.

While the overall peace and security situation in Central Africa had remained stable, amid significant progress in economic growth and declining activity by armed groups, violence by militias continued to spill across borders, as devastating attacks by the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) continued to pose grave challenges, the top United Nations official in the region told the Security Council during a briefing today.
