By decision of Minister for International Development Heidi Hautala, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs has granted its humanitarian assistance funds for the last part of the year, totalling 9.46 million euros, to people suffering from the world’s crises. The humanitarian assistance granted by Finland in 2012 thus rises in total to more than 83 million euros. In the distribution of funds this autumn, the humanitarian assistance targets Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
The Executive Secretary of Intergovernmental Authority on Development His Excellency Eng. Mahboub M. Maalim and Chargé d'affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Finland Counsellor Mr. Simo-Pekka Parviainen signed today in Addis Ababa, Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia a wide ranging multi-year cooperation and support agreement, which steps up Finnish support to the IGAD organization and strengthens regional integration in Horn of Africa/IGAD region.
HELSINKI, Finland, May 25 (UNHCR) – The UN refugee agency has completed a unique and moving series of regional dialogues with women that began in India last November and wrapped up in Finland this week.
The seven dialogue meetings brought together hundreds of women in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas and were aimed at giving refugee women a voice and an opportunity to influence change during UNHCR's landmark 60th year.
